Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s ability to withstand the demands of campaigning for the 2027 presidential election, alleging that the President’s decision to stay away from All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign activities suggests concerns about his health.
Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for Peter Obi’s presidential campaign in the 2023 general election, made the remarks in a post on X on Wednesday while reacting to the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 polls.
He argued that the development had brought what he described as Tinubu’s “physical incapacity” to undertake a nationwide campaign into focus.
“The inauguration of APC Presidential Campaign Council has finally exposed Tinubu’s physical incapacity to embark on the onerous task of a presidential campaign,” he said.
The former campaign spokesperson cited comments attributed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who reportedly indicated that Tinubu would remain in office to concentrate on governance while other members of the party’s campaign team carried out campaign activities.
“Gov Hope Uzodimma hinted that Tinubu will stay back in office and concentrate on governance while they continue with the campaign,” Okonkwo said.
He interpreted the arrangement as an indication that the APC wanted the President to avoid campaign appearances because of concerns about his physical condition.
“APC was actually telling the President indirectly to stay in the hospital and take care of his health rather than disgracing them by coming out to be falling uncontrollably and speaking baba blue at functions,” he alleged.
Okonkwo further claimed that Tinubu had confirmed he would not participate directly in campaign activities but would instead communicate with Nigerians from his office.
“Tinubu confirmed that he would not be joining in the campaign but will be speaking to Nigerians from his office,” he said.
On the basis of his claims, Okonkwo called on the President to resign, arguing that the country required a leader capable of fully discharging the responsibilities of the office.
“I agree that the President should step down from the post of President because he is unwell so that Nigeria will be governed by a fit and proper President,” he said.
He also urged voters to reject Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, warning that the President’s reported decision to stay away from campaign activities could result in what he described as an “absentee President”.
“Nigeria needs a new President and they should vote out Tinubu because he will be an absentee President,” Okonkwo said.
The actor-turned-politician also endorsed former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for the 2027 election.
He urged Nigerians to support Atiku, describing his preferred political alternative as a pathway to what he called an “affordable Nigeria”.
