The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal as the party intensifies preparations for the next general election.

The disclosure was made on Monday in a statement by the party's National Leader, Seriake, who also revealed that the NDC had challenged a recent court judgment by filing an appeal and an application for a stay of execution.

According to the statement, both court processes have been served on the Chairman of INEC and the electoral commission, while the party has been granted access to the commission's nomination portal to submit the names of its candidates.

The party said the names of its National Leader and presidential candidate have already been uploaded, adding that the vice-presidential candidate's details would be submitted after the completion of the necessary documentation. It noted that the upload of candidates for other elective positions is also in progress.

The NDC insisted that it remains a legally registered political party and has participated fully in the electoral process since its registration. It stated that its primary elections were conducted under the observation of INEC, producing candidates for the various elective offices.

The statement said the party is now focused on completing the formal submission of candidates in line with the electoral timetable released by INEC.

It noted that political parties have until July 11 to upload the names of National Assembly candidates and until July 17 to submit those contesting governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The party urged its members and supporters to remain calm, assuring them that there is sufficient time to conclude the nomination process for all candidates.

While admitting that differences emerged during its primary elections, the NDC said reconciliation efforts are ongoing to unite aspirants and party stakeholders across the country ahead of the electioneering campaign.

It further assured aspirants who did not secure tickets that they would be actively involved in campaign councils, committees and other party activities, describing them as vital to the party's grassroots support base.

The statement congratulated all the party's candidates and supporters and called on relevant institutions to safeguard Nigeria's democratic process.

The NDC also commended INEC for its handling of the party's registration and electoral activities, while urging the electoral commission, the judiciary and security agencies to remain fair, impartial and committed to upholding democratic principles.

It expressed confidence that the courts would resolve the legal issues surrounding the matter in accordance with the provisions of the law.
