Isaac Fayose has advised his elder brother and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, not to accept his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), insisting that the position does not match his political stature.
The younger Fayose made the remarks in a video posted on his Instagram page following the announcement by the Presidency of fresh appointments into the boards of several federal agencies and commissions.
President Bola Tinubu had approved the appointment of Ayodele Fayose as chairman of the REA board alongside other non-executive directors, while the agency's Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and executive directors retained their positions.
Reacting to the development, Isaac argued that his brother deserved a more prominent appointment, saying he was surprised the former governor was not considered for positions such as minister or ambassador.
He maintained that the chairmanship of a federal agency was below the status of the former governor, whom he described as a respected political figure.
Isaac also suggested that the appointment may have been influenced by the recent visit of National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his residence.
According to him, the timing of the appointment raised questions, as it came shortly after Obi's visit, during which he publicly declared his support for the former Anambra State governor's presidential ambition.
He recalled that Ayodele Fayose had often stated after leaving office that he would not seek or accept government appointments but would instead focus on his private business.
Isaac noted that his brother was already financially successful before venturing into politics and had no need for public office.
Describing the appointment as a "Greek gift," he questioned why it was being offered several years after the former governor left office.
While congratulating his brother, Isaac urged him to reject the appointment or hand it over to his son, insisting that the former governor's influence and experience placed him above such a position.
The businessman also reaffirmed his belief that the opposition stands a strong chance in the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that a transparent electoral process would produce a different outcome.
