Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party (LP), saying the party already has a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
The governor made the clarification during his monthly media chat on Thursday while responding to questions on the country's evolving political landscape and speculations about his possible support for candidates outside the Labour Party.
Otti, who is regarded as one of the party's leading figures, said his position should not be misinterpreted, stressing that as a member and leader of the Labour Party, his loyalty remains with the party.
According to him, the Labour Party already has a presidential candidate, making questions about his support for candidates of other political parties unnecessary.
The governor also indicated that his primary focus remains fulfilling the mandate given to him by the people of Abia State rather than engaging in political distractions.
He said his administration would continue to concentrate on delivering good governance, improving infrastructure, enhancing security and attracting investments to the state.
Speaking during the media chat, Otti maintained that governance remains his priority, adding that he would not be drawn into political debates capable of diverting attention from the responsibilities entrusted to him by Abians.
The governor's remarks come amid increasing political realignments and speculations ahead of the 2027 general election, with several opposition leaders reportedly exploring coalition arrangements.
Beyond politics, Otti highlighted some of the achievements of his administration, including improvements in security, the planned deployment of additional electric buses to expand the state's mass transit system, ongoing efforts to clear outstanding gratuities owed to retirees and sustained efforts to attract both local and foreign investors to Abia.
He disclosed that 20 additional electric buses with higher passenger and cargo capacity had already arrived the state and would soon commence inter-city operations to improve transportation and reduce commuting costs.
On security, the governor reiterated his administration's zero-tolerance stance against criminality, warning that criminals would find no safe haven in Abia.
He also assured pensioners that the government was making progress towards settling outstanding gratuities, noting that funds had already been set aside while officials were working to reconcile the final figures before payment.
Otti further said his administration continued to receive genuine investment interests from local and international investors, attributing the growing confidence to the government's reforms and commitment to creating an enabling business environment in the state.
