The Borno State Police Command has arrested and charged five men over their alleged involvement in the production and wearing of T-shirts bearing the inscription, “Tinubu Must Go”, in Maiduguri.
The development is contained in a First Information Report (FIR) dated September 29, 2026, issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Maiduguri, and addressed to the Chief Magistrate Court in the state capital.
The suspects were identified as Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.
The police accused the five men of criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace and thuggery.
According to the FIR, the suspects allegedly conspired on September 25 to print T-shirts bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go” with the intention of causing a breach of public peace within the West End Roundabout community in Maiduguri.
The police said the alleged offences contravened Sections 60, 78, 79 and 392 of the Borno State Penal Code.
The FIR stated that the suspects “conspired together by printing same T shirt with some inscription written ‘Tinubu Must Go’ on it with the intent to cause breach of public peace within West End roundabout community”.
The officer handling the case subsequently directed that the suspects be charged before the court.
A source said the five men were later taken before the court and remanded in a correctional facility.
The source also alleged that their arrest followed a directive from the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, to the state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid.
The police document, however, does not state in the portion made available the circumstances leading to the arrests or attribute the directive to the governor.
The arrests come amid increased political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their supporters stepping up mobilisation activities across the country.
Zulum recently returned from a trip to the United States and Canada and subsequently launched an APC mobilisation campaign in Borno in support of President Bola Tinubu and other candidates of the party.
