Former senator representing Katsina Central, Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua, has formally exited the All Progressives Congress (APC), denouncing the party as a vehicle for elite exploitation and poor governance.
In a scathing resignation letter dated July 28 and addressed to the APC ward chairman in Katsina, Yar’adua accused the party of running a government that has trampled on the dignity, welfare, and livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians.
“The government has truly become what Malam Nasir El-Rufai once called ‘urban bandits,’ or as I prefer to describe them, ‘bandits in government,’” he wrote.
Yar’adua, a former APC gubernatorial aspirant in Katsina ahead of the 2023 elections, said the party had lost its way, captured by vested interests and foreign capital, to the detriment of the Nigerian people.
“In reality, they serve only the petit-bourgeois elite and the dictates of International Monopoly Capital. The masses have been abandoned,” he said.
Declaring his new political home, Yar’adua announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a party committed to genuine democratic change and national transformation.
“I am joining a political platform that is poised to reshape the future of this country. The ADC represents hope, renewal, and a path out of the current political quagmire,” he said.
He also urged his political associates and supporters across Katsina State to align with his decision, expressing confidence that many would soon join him in the ADC to build a new political movement.
