The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced the passing of his mother, Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour.
Rhodes-Vivour disclosed the development on Monday through a statement shared on his official X account.
The statement, signed on behalf of the family by Olawale Rhodes-Vivour, described the deceased as a caring wife, dedicated mother and cherished grandmother whose life was marked by love and service to her family.
“With sadness in our hearts and gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the call to glory of Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour (née Waboso). A loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. The epitome of love,” the family stated.
The family expressed gratitude for her life and legacy, noting that her passing had left a deep void among relatives and loved ones.
“She will be sorely missed. May her beautiful soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
No further details were provided regarding the circumstances of her death.
The family, however, said arrangements for her funeral and burial rites would be communicated in due course.
Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour's death comes as her son prepares for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was the Labour Party's candidate in the 2023 Lagos governorship election before defecting to the ADC. He subsequently secured the party's governorship ticket in May 2026 ahead of the next electoral contest in the state.
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from political associates, supporters and well-wishers following the announcement of the family bereavement.
