Nollywood actress and singer Angela Okorie has been released from the custody of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, following a brief rearrest linked to a disputed debt.

Okorie was initially freed on Tuesday from the Suleja Correctional Centre after meeting her bail conditions in a defamation case. However, shortly after leaving the facility, she was reportedly rearrested by police and taken to the FCT Command in Abuja.

Sources familiar with the matter said the rearrest was not related to any fresh criminal allegation but stemmed from what police described as a “debt-related issue.”

“She was rearrested after being released from Suleja. A police team brought her back to the FCT Command over alleged debt issues,” a source said.

The dispute reportedly involved legal fees. Actress Doris Ogala, in a video shared on Instagram, claimed that Okorie’s rearrest followed a complaint by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) over an unpaid N5 million fee for legal services rendered to secure her bail.

Ogala added that the SAN had been engaged through a third party while Okorie was in detention. Tensions arose when Okorie allegedly refused to pay the fee, insisting she was not responsible for the arrangement, despite claims that an initial deposit had been made.

Following interventions by her legal team, the FCT Police Commissioner ordered her release.

Okorie’s lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, confirmed her freedom to journalists, saying, “They have released Angela Okorie from the FCT Police Command. The Commissioner of Police ordered that she be released to me.”

The actress is now out of custody and in the care of her legal representatives, ending a day marked by uncertainty and public attention over her brief rearrest.
