The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost one of its prominent leaders and former National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih.
Orbih, a close associate of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, died on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to his family.
His death was announced in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih on behalf of the family.
The family expressed grief over the loss, saying the announcement was made “with profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God.”
The statement described Orbih as a beloved brother, husband, father and uncle, while announcing that he was survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih, and his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih.
He is also survived by his siblings and other members of the extended family.
Orbih was a major political figure within the PDP and was particularly influential in Edo State and the South-South geopolitical zone.
He was widely known as one of Wike’s political allies and remained involved in the affairs of the party during the internal disagreements that rocked the PDP.
The family appealed to friends, associates and well-wishers to pray for them as they come to terms with the death.
“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss,” the statement said.
The family said arrangements for his funeral would be communicated at a later date.
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement added.
