A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Plateau North senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Gyang Zi, has withdrawn from the party’s ongoing primary election, demanding ₦10 billion in damages over what he described as a defamatory publication labelling him “not cleared.”
In a letter dated May 18, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, Zi accused the party of publishing his name on its official social media platforms, including X, among aspirants allegedly disqualified for the Plateau North senatorial primary without providing reasons.
He said the publication was made despite his payment for nomination and expression of interest forms and his participation in the screening exercise conducted for the exercise.
Zi, who wrote through his chambers, Gyang Zi SAN & Co., said the development had caused significant damage to his reputation and exposed him to public embarrassment and political setback.
“The publication portraying me as ‘not cleared’ without justification has greatly injured my reputation, subjected me to public ridicule, and destabilised my supporters and political structure across Plateau North Senatorial District and beyond,” he stated.
He further argued that the statement had negatively affected his standing both as a legal practitioner and political figure.
Consequently, Zi announced his withdrawal from the senatorial primary, pending what he described as an immediate retraction of the publication, a public apology, and financial compensation from the party.
He is demanding ₦10 billion in damages for alleged defamation, emotional distress and reputational harm.
Zi warned that failure by the APC to comply with his demands within a reasonable timeframe would leave him with no option but to seek legal redress against the party and all persons involved in the publication.
