JUST IN: Adeleke wins Osun governorship election

Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won 19 of the 30 Local Government Areas in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, emerged victorious in 11 LGAs.

The results were collated and announced at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) state collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday.

Although 15 political parties contested the election, the race was largely a two-horse contest between Adeleke and Oyebamiji, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, trailing behind.

According to the results announced by the various Returning Officers, Adeleke secured substantial victories in several LGAs, including Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Ife East, Iwo and Oriade.

Oyebamiji, on the other hand, won in areas including Irewole, Boripe, Ilesa East, Obokun, Atakumosa West and Olorunda.

The final declaration of the election result is expected to be made by the State Returning Officer, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole.

The results announced across the 30 LGAs are:

- Boluwaduro: Accord 7,118; APC 7,050; ADC 179.
- Ede South: Accord 26,188; APC 6,219; ADC 390.
- Ife North: Accord 13,879; APC 9,613; ADC 333.
- Ilesa West: Accord 16,196; APC 12,756; ADC 673.
- Ifedayo: Accord 7,427; APC 6,836; ADC 115.
- Ilesa East: Accord 12,280; APC 16,208; ADC 504.
- Ife Central: Accord 21,171; APC 15,913; ADC 747.
- Boripe: Accord 12,448; APC 19,963; ADC 379.
- Irepodun: Accord 14,504; APC 15,713; ADC 249.
- Obokun: Accord 12,023; APC 16,120; ADC 205.
- Orolu: Accord 12,352; APC 10,622; ADC 236.

The outcome gives Adeleke a majority of the LGAs and places him in a strong position ahead of the final declaration by INEC.

The election attracted significant attention across the state, with the two leading parties mounting intense campaigns in the build-up to the poll.

The official winner will be confirmed after the State Returning Officer announces the final aggregate votes at the collation centre in Osogbo.
