The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Iniedu Okokon as its new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), replacing Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid in a fresh leadership change at the Force Headquarters.

The appointment comes barely three months after Placid was named police spokesman following the assumption of office by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police.

While the police authorities are yet to officially explain the reasons for the latest redeployment, Placid confirmed that he had been replaced when contacted by journalists.

The outgoing spokesman, however, did not provide further details regarding the development.

Sources familiar with the reshuffle disclosed that Placid has been redeployed to the Lagos State Police Command, where he is expected to head the Finance and Administration Department.

Okokon now assumes responsibility for managing the Force's public communications and serving as the principal liaison between the Nigeria Police Force, the media and the public.

His appointment is seen as part of ongoing administrative adjustments within the Force under the leadership of IGP Disu, who has continued to reorganise key departments since taking office.

As Force Public Relations Officer, Okokon will be tasked with communicating police policies, responding to public concerns and providing regular updates on security operations and law enforcement activities across the country.

The Nigeria Police Force has yet to issue a formal statement outlining the circumstances surrounding the change in spokespersonship.

The development nonetheless marks another notable personnel adjustment within the Force's leadership structure as the new police administration seeks to consolidate its operational and communication strategies.
