Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has inaugurated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council for Kogi Central ahead of the 2027 general elections, directing the team to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the senatorial district.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, charged members of the campaign organisation to take the party’s message directly to voters in their homes and at every polling unit.
At the inauguration, the senator named Salami Etudaiye as Director-General of the campaign council, while Abubakar Karaku was appointed campaign chairman.
Other members of the council include Jacob Ogirima Anebe as secretary, Ilyasu Zubair as head of operations, Isiaka Uhuanaye as head of technicals and Jane Onoba as head of welfare.
Akpoti demands grassroots mobilisation
The senator said the PDP must move away from relying solely on large political rallies and instead engage voters directly at the grassroots.
“This campaign must be house-to-house and polling-unit-by-polling-unit. We must reach our people directly, listen to them, engage them and explain clearly why the PDP remains the best platform for the development and progress of our people,” she said.
She directed the campaign council to ensure that all wards and polling units within Kogi Central were adequately covered.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also urged members to work with discipline and unity while remaining open to individuals who are willing to contribute to the party’s electoral success, irrespective of previous political differences.
“We must open our doors for everyone who wants to join this moving train and this winning team. There is room for everyone who believes in the PDP and in the future we are building for Kogi Central,” she said.
According to her, winning the 2027 election would require the combined efforts of party leaders, women, youths, ward executives, campaign coordinators, volunteers and other stakeholders.
Campaign DG vows to deliver victory
Etudaiye, the newly appointed Director-General of the campaign organisation, described his appointment as a major responsibility rather than a ceremonial position.
“This is not a ceremonial title. This is a call to battle. I did not accept this assignment to manage a campaign of polite handshakes and quiet meetings. I accepted it to organise a movement,” he said.
He said the campaign would extend across Okene, Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi and Ogori-Magongo, with mobilisation targeted at wards, polling units, streets, markets, campuses and households.
“We are not going into this election to beg. We are going in to win and to win decisively,” Etudaiye said.
He also called for greater participation by women and youths, describing women as a critical pillar of the party’s structure and youths as essential to contemporary political mobilisation.
Etudaiye pledged to run the campaign with transparency and competence while focusing on securing victory for PDP candidates.
Campaign chairman urges unity
Karaku, the campaign chairman, appealed to PDP members and leaders in Kogi Central to set aside their differences and work together ahead of the election.
“This is the time for every member of our great party to come together. We must put aside whatever differences we may have and concentrate on the larger objective of building a stronger PDP and securing victory for our candidates,” he said.
He urged the campaign council to adopt an issue-based approach and sell the party’s programmes and policies to voters rather than resorting to personal attacks or divisive rhetoric.
“Our message must be positive, our conduct must be responsible, and our mobilisation must be strategic,” Karaku said.
