The United States has warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia of possible further attacks on major airports in Riyadh and Dammam, advising travellers to exercise extreme caution amid fears of flight cancellations and airspace closures.
The US Mission in Saudi Arabia issued the warning in a security alert dated October 11, 2026, which it shared on its official X handle on Monday.
According to the mission, it had received information about additional attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and a targeted strike on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Sunday.
The mission urged travellers to remain vigilant when using airports across the country, warning that the security situation could disrupt air travel.
“Please take extreme caution when using all major airports in Saudi Arabia,” the security alert stated.
It also advised US citizens to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions, urging them to confirm their flight schedules directly with airlines and airport authorities before travelling.
The mission recommended alternative transportation options for travellers who might be affected by disruptions to air services.
It specifically listed Saudi Arabia Railways, SAT Transportation and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO) as alternatives, while advising passengers to verify availability and schedules with the service providers.
The security alert also outlined movement restrictions affecting US government personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia.
According to the mission, government employees must obtain special authorisation before using King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and airports in Jeddah and Dammam.
The restrictions further prohibit US government employees from travelling within 20 miles of the Saudi-Yemen border because of security concerns.
Special authorisation is also required for official travel to Jizan, Asir and Najran provinces, as well as the cities of Qatif, Yanbu and Taif.
Despite the heightened security concerns, the mission said regular and emergency consular services remained available to American citizens in the country.
The latest warning followed a series of deadly attacks on Saudi aviation facilities, which have raised concerns about the safety of air travel and prompted additional security measures.
An attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, October 10, reportedly killed 12 people and injured more than 300, according to Saudi officials.
Another attack on Sunday left one person dead and 11 others injured, Reuters reported.
The incidents disrupted airport operations and triggered fresh travel warnings as authorities assessed the security situation.
The US Mission's latest advisory urged travellers to remain alert, monitor developments and confirm their travel arrangements before heading to airports.
