Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a Sudanese national suspected of having links to terrorist groups and a Ghanaian woman believed to be an illegal immigrant during a security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on Sunday during an intelligence-led operation in Lassa, within the Dille General Area of the local government.
The military identified the Sudanese suspect as 32-year-old Musa Fashir, alleging that preliminary intelligence linked him to terrorist elements operating in the North-East.
"Troops of Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai, while sustaining aggressive counter-terrorism operations across the North-East theatre, apprehended another foreign terrorist fighter and an alleged illegal immigrant during a security operation in Lassa, Dille General Area of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State," the statement said.
It added that early intelligence findings suggested Fashir had established connections with insurgent groups, an indication of attempts by foreign actors to support terrorist activities in the region.
The troops also arrested 36-year-old Mary Florence, who claimed to be a Ghanaian national and an illegal immigrant.
The military said investigations were ongoing to verify her identity, establish the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area and determine the authenticity of her claims.
According to Goni, both suspects are currently in military custody, where they are undergoing profiling and interrogation to ascertain their identities, establish the extent of their activities and determine whether they have links to terrorist organisations or transnational criminal networks.
He said the arrests underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations being carried out by Operation Hadin Kai and reaffirm the vigilance of troops in preventing terrorists and their collaborators from operating freely.
The military spokesperson added that the operation reflects the force's determination to disrupt terrorist support structures, prevent the infiltration of foreign fighters and enhance security across the North-East.
He reiterated that Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to dismantling terrorist logistics, financing and support networks while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
