Bandits have once again unleashed terror in Zamfara State, abducting more than 100 farmers in Jengebe village, Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
The attack occurred over the weekend, with reports indicating that the armed gang returned to the community on Monday evening but failed to carry out further abductions during the second raid.
According to the Hausa Service of Radio France Internationale (RFI), monitored by our correspondent, nine farmers were killed on their farmlands during the initial assault.
Reacting to the incident, Ahmad Dan Manga, Special Adviser on Security to the Zamfara State Governor, said the government had taken swift measures to address the situation. He noted that a delegation would be dispatched to the affected community, while soldiers and local vigilante groups have already been deployed to boost security in the area.
Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, the Police Command announced the arrest of Mati Bagiyo, a notorious bandit who had been on the run for 11 years.
Police spokesperson Mansur Hassan said a large cache of weapons was recovered from Bagiyo, including an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, two fabricated pistols, two AK-47 magazines, two LAR rifle magazines, four live rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 pump-action cartridges, 80 rounds of pistol ammunition, a machete, two torchlights, and an unjamming rod.
Hassan disclosed that Bagiyo had long terrorised communities in Kaduna and Katsina States. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting investigators with valuable information.
