A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Faith Alayande, has died after falling from the rooftop of a hostel at the institution’s Lagos campus.

The incident occurred at about 4am on Friday, August 7, 2026, while Alayande, a student of the Enugu campus, was in Lagos for an externship programme.

The Nigerian Law School confirmed the death in a statement issued on Monday by Aderonke Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration.

According to the institution, preliminary information indicated that Alayande fell from the hostel rooftop and sustained injuries to which she later succumbed.

“Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident,” the statement said.

The management described the incident as a tragic development, adding that it had begun working with relevant authorities and the deceased’s family to establish what led to the incident.

It said the investigation was aimed at clarifying the circumstances surrounding the death and ensuring that all necessary procedures were followed.

The law school expressed condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by the incident, while offering its thoughts and prayers to the bereaved family.

The management also disclosed that the family had requested privacy and appealed to the public and the media to respect the request as they mourned their daughter.

“The Management of the Nigerian Law School respectfully appeals to everyone to honour the family’s wishes and refrain from any actions that may further compound their grief at this difficult moment,” it said.

The institution reiterated its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students and staff.

The Lagos State Police Command separately confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron alerted the authorities after the student was found unresponsive on the premises.

Police operatives were said to have visited the scene and subsequently evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue.

The command said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.
