Suspected gunmen have abducted six worshippers after invading a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The attackers struck in the early hours of Wednesday during a midnight prayer session, reportedly arriving at about 12:50 a.m. and forcefully taking the victims to an undisclosed location.
The latest incident occurred barely four days after gunmen kidnapped a couple in Ilu-Abo community, Akure North LGA, heightening anxiety over a surge in criminal attacks across the state since the beginning of the year.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Jimoh Abayomi, said security operatives responded swiftly after receiving information about the attack.
“Operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” he said.
According to him, one of the abducted worshippers has been rescued, while a suspect linked to the invasion has been arrested. The suspect, he noted, has provided useful information to investigators.
Abayomi assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and track down other members of the gang.
He urged residents to stay calm and vigilant, and to assist security agencies with credible intelligence that could aid the rescue mission.
The attack underscores growing security challenges in parts of Ondo State, with residents calling for intensified protection measures.
