A three-storey building collapsed on Thursday in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, sparking fears that several occupants may be trapped beneath the wreckage.
The building reportedly caved in at about 11:40 a.m., causing panic among residents and business owners in the vicinity as crowds gathered around the scene.
Witnesses said the structure suddenly collapsed, sending dust and debris into the air and forcing people in neighbouring buildings to evacuate for fear of another collapse.
Although the number of casualties could not be immediately confirmed, reports indicated that some individuals were trapped under the rubble as rescue efforts got underway.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident and disclosed that emergency responders had been deployed to the site.
Rescue teams were seen combing through the debris in search of survivors while residents looked on anxiously.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the collapse, and no official figure has been released regarding the number of people affected.
The incident adds to growing concerns over building safety and structural integrity in parts of Lagos, as emergency officials continue efforts to save lives and assess the extent of the damage.
