Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Friday, June 6, 2025, will be observed as Eid-el-Adha (Sallah) following the sighting of the crescent moon signaling the start of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The announcement, shared Tuesday via the Haramain Sharifain’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that Dhul Hijjah 1446 begins on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The statement also outlined the key dates for upcoming Islamic rites and festivities:

First day of Dhul Hijjah: Wednesday, May 28, 2025

Day of Arafah: Thursday, June 5, 2025

Eid-el-Adha (Sallah): Friday, June 6, 2025

The Day of Arafah, observed on June 5, marks the spiritual peak of the annual Hajj pilgrimage as millions of Muslim pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat for a day of prayer and reflection.

Eid-el-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, follows on June 6. The celebration honors the unwavering faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son as commanded by Allah before a divine intervention provided a ram as a substitute.

In commemoration, Muslims across the globe perform prayers and animal sacrifices, sharing the meat with family, friends, and those in need.

Haramain Sharifain also included the iconic Talbiyah chant recited by pilgrims entering the sacred state of ihram for Hajj:

"Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak."
(*"Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise
