The publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, has died at the age of 56.
Oladipo, who was born on December 19, 1969, would have turned 57 in December.
He reportedly died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after developing sudden health complications.
According to reports, Oladipo was at his office when he became unwell and decided to drive himself to the hospital for medical attention.
He was said to have suffered what was suspected to be a heart attack while receiving emergency treatment at the hospital.
The circumstances surrounding his death came as a shock to friends, colleagues and associates, particularly as Oladipo had reportedly maintained his normal routine earlier in the day.
He was said to have visited a gym with his wife on Tuesday before the health emergency occurred.
The journalist also remained active on social media throughout the day, with his last known post reportedly published at about 2:50pm, only a few hours before news of his death began circulating among friends and professional colleagues.
Oladipo was the Managing Editor and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, the publisher of The Eagle Online, which he founded during the early years of Nigeria's rapidly developing digital news industry.
Through the platform, he became one of the journalists who contributed to the growth of online journalism in Nigeria, building a media organisation at a time when digital publishing was still taking shape in the country.
His death is expected to leave a significant void within Nigeria's media industry, particularly among journalists and practitioners in the digital news space.
Colleagues and associates have continued to mourn the veteran journalist and media entrepreneur, whose career was closely associated with the emergence and expansion of online journalism in Nigeria.
