A major breakthrough was recorded in the fight against kidnapping on Saturday as operatives of the Nigeria Police Force rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons from their abductors.
The rescue operation, carried out at about 7:30 p.m., followed days of intensive intelligence gathering and tactical surveillance by security operatives.
Mrs. John-Paul and her sons, Peter and Paul, were reportedly kidnapped on the morning of June 3 while heading to school.
Sources within the security establishment disclosed that investigators tracked the activities of the kidnappers and mounted sustained pressure on the criminal group, eventually leading operatives to their location.
The operation turned violent when the suspects allegedly engaged the police in a gunfight. Two members of the gang were killed during the exchange, while security personnel recovered two firearms from the scene.
The victims were rescued alive and unharmed, bringing an end to a tense three-day ordeal that had generated anxiety among relatives and well-wishers.
Security sources said efforts have been intensified to capture other members of the gang who escaped during the operation. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have suffered gunshot wounds and may be seeking medical treatment in nearby communities.
The police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the kidnapping network behind the abduction.
The successful operation has been hailed as another significant step in the campaign against kidnapping and violent crime, with authorities reiterating their commitment to tracking down criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.
