Otedola reveals 49-year friendship with Hamzat, says they shared bunk bed

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has revealed that his relationship with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat dates back nearly 50 years, recalling how they shared a bunk bed while attending boarding school.

Otedola made the disclosure on Monday in a post on his X account after hosting a dinner in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

The businessman described Hamzat as a person of exceptional integrity, noting that their friendship had endured since their school days.

“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago,” Otedola wrote.

He said his assessment of Hamzat over the years had been shaped by the deputy governor's personal qualities, particularly his honesty, sincerity, fairness and commitment to strong moral principles.

“My experience of his character over the years has been defined by his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles,” he added.

The dinner attracted prominent figures in Nigeria's business community, including billionaire industrialists Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu.

Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor under Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is the APC's candidate for the 2027 Lagos governorship election.
