The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has advocated stronger collaboration between Nigeria and Switzerland, saying deeper partnerships focused on human development are essential to the country's progress.
Obi made this known on Wednesday after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Egloff, describing their discussions as constructive and centred on issues critical to Nigeria's development.
In a post on his X account, the former Anambra State governor said the meeting focused on the country's development priorities, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare and poverty reduction.
He acknowledged Switzerland's longstanding support for Nigeria, especially its interventions in humanitarian, economic and peace-building programmes in the North-East.
Obi expressed appreciation to the Swiss Confederation for its contributions to Nigeria's development, noting that the country's assistance had played an important role in addressing critical challenges in affected communities.
According to him, expanding cooperation between both countries on the basis of shared values and mutual commitment to human development would help promote inclusive growth and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
He stressed that partnerships that prioritise investments in people and sustainable development remain vital to building a more prosperous and equitable nation.
