Presidential Aide Awards Scholarship to 16-Year-Old UTME High Scorer

President Bola Tinubu’s Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Mr. Kamorudeen Yusuf, has awarded a full scholarship to 16-year-old Sodiq Shoyode, who recently scored an impressive 360 in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Shoyode, a native of Ado-Odo Local Government Area of Ogun State, gained national attention after his result went viral online, drawing widespread commendation for his academic feat, especially given his modest background.

Inspired by the teenager’s brilliance and ambition, Yusuf reportedly contacted the Shoyode family and pledged to support the gifted student through his academic journey.

In a statement, Yusuf’s office announced that the scholarship would cover Sodiq’s university education. In addition, the presidential aide would provide a laptop and enroll him in a leading digital skills academy in Lagos to train in backend software development.

Sodiq, who aspires to study Mechanical Engineering, said he had long set a goal of scoring above 360 in the UTME and worked diligently to make it a reality.

“I’ve had the dream of scoring 360 and above since I was in SS1,” he said. “I studied consistently, took weekly mock tests, and evaluated my progress to identify areas for improvement.”

His passion for learning extends beyond engineering. With growing interest in digital technology, Sodiq is excited about the opportunity to learn backend software development before he gains admission into the university.

Expressing his gratitude, the young scholar thanked his parents for their support and praised Mr. Yusuf for his generous intervention.

“I’m truly grateful to my parents and to Mr. Kamorudeen Yusuf for lightening the financial burden on my family. His support means everything to me, and I promise not to disappoint,” he said.
