The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered N1.23 trillion and $684.48 million linked to financial crimes between October 2023 and June 2026, its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed.
Olukoyede made this known on Monday in Abuja while addressing media executives and journalists, saying asset recovery had remained a major focus of the commission under his leadership.
He said the EFCC recorded total recoveries of N1,233,612,040,411.11, $684,478,457.32, £373,905.78 and €9,343,803.66 during the period under review.
The commission also recovered funds in other currencies, although no aggregate value was provided for those recoveries.
Giving a breakdown of the naira component, Olukoyede said N397.26 billion, representing about 33 per cent of the total, was recovered directly for the Federal Government.
The remaining N836.34 billion, equivalent to approximately 67 per cent, comprised indirect recoveries made on behalf of government ministries.
“Of the naira amount, approximately N397.26bn, representing 33 per cent, represented direct recoveries for the Federal Government, while N836.34bn, representing 67 per cent, represented indirect recoveries made on behalf of ministries,” he said.
The EFCC chairman said the figures reflected the commission’s efforts to trace, seize and recover proceeds and assets connected to economic and financial crimes.
According to him, asset recovery is central to the EFCC’s mandate because it helps prevent individuals involved in financial crimes from retaining the benefits of illicit activities while also protecting public resources.
Olukoyede said the commission would sustain its focus on recovering funds and assets linked to financial crimes and ensuring that recovered resources are returned to their legitimate owners.
He described asset recovery as one of the key pillars of the commission’s stewardship and a critical component of its broader campaign against corruption and economic crimes.
The latest figures cover a period of 32 months, from October 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026.
