Dangote Industries Limited and the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) have commended Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) for its efforts to strengthen cooperation among African stock exchanges and expand cross-border investment opportunities.

The commendation came during an investor engagement in Gaborone, Botswana, on Wednesday, as part of the ongoing roadshow for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE offer. The event followed an earlier engagement in Nairobi, Kenya.

The roadshow is designed to deepen collaboration among African capital-market institutions and broaden investors’ access to opportunities beyond their domestic markets.

Murat Erden, Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, praised NGX Group Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, and Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Temi Popoola, for bringing exchanges across the continent together to support the initiative.

He recalled that the effort began with a meeting convened by NGX Group in Lagos in April 2026, noting that cooperation among exchanges could help companies reach a wider pool of investors.

Erden also highlighted the role of digital technology in expanding participation in the refinery offer, particularly the integration of WhatsApp into NGX Invest, NGX Group’s electronic public-offering platform.

He said the partnership between NGX Group and participating exchanges had helped extend the offer’s reach to investors in different African markets.

Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Stock Exchange, Aobakwe Aupa Monyatsi, also welcomed the initiative, describing collaboration among African exchanges as an important avenue for broadening investment opportunities.

Monyatsi expressed support for efforts to encourage more exchanges to join the initiative, noting the potential to increase participation and strengthen relationships among capital-market operators across the continent.

At the Nairobi engagement, Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, had similarly praised Kwairanga and Popoola for promoting closer ties among African capital-market institutions.

Dangote noted that stronger links between exchanges could enable businesses to raise capital in several markets rather than rely exclusively on their home countries.

He cited the planned refinery in Mokowe-Lamu, Kenya, as an example of the opportunities available to businesses operating across national boundaries, including the possibility of listing on multiple exchanges.

Speaking on the initiative, NGX Group Chairman Kwairanga said stronger connections among African capital markets would make it easier for companies to raise funds and enable investors to participate in opportunities across the continent.

“Our vision is to build stronger connections among African capital markets, making it easier for businesses to access capital and for investors to participate in opportunities across the continent. The collaboration around the Dangote Refinery offer demonstrates what African exchanges can achieve when we work together towards a shared objective,” he said.

Popoola said the initiative was intended to turn the aspiration of greater African financial integration into practical partnerships among exchanges.

“When we began this engagement, our objective was continental: to bring African exchanges together and explore how we can create stronger connections between African capital markets,” he said.

NGX Invest supports subscriptions through more than 180 distribution channels, including stockbrokers, banks and fintech companies. The addition of WhatsApp provides another access route for investors seeking to participate in the offer.

The roadshow is expected to continue with engagements at the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX).

The engagements will extend the initiative’s reach to additional markets, with NGX Group seeking to strengthen cross-border investment links, improve access to capital and promote greater participation in Africa’s capital markets.
