Fidelity Bank Plc has strengthened its intervention in food security and community welfare with the distribution of more than 2,000 food packs to vulnerable residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The initiative was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank programme at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, as part of its broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at supporting disadvantaged households and improving access to essential food supplies.
Speaking during the distribution, the Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, Folaranmi Jemirin, said the bank had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since the programme was introduced in 2023.
Jemirin said the initiative was designed to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to achieve Zero Hunger, while providing direct support to communities where the bank operates.
He said, “At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development.”
According to him, the food bank programme goes beyond immediate relief, as the bank seeks to strengthen communities and provide sustainable support for vulnerable families.
Jemirin also disclosed that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta cover several areas, including education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community development programmes.
He described the latest food distribution as an intervention aimed at “restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families” and improving the wellbeing of beneficiaries.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the Catholic Diocese and other partners to the success of the programme.
Receiving the food items on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for its continued support for vulnerable members of the community.
Olagbaju said the gesture demonstrated the bank’s commitment to community development and its willingness to collaborate with religious institutions and other organisations to address social challenges.
He said the Abeokuta community appreciated being selected to benefit from the food bank initiative, adding that such interventions could make a significant difference in the lives of families facing economic difficulties.
Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has grown into one of Fidelity Bank’s major social intervention programmes, with the bank using partnerships with religious bodies, community organisations and other stakeholders to extend food assistance to vulnerable households across the country.
The initiative is part of the bank’s wider CSR activities aimed at promoting inclusive development, improving livelihoods and supporting social welfare in its host communities.
