The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced a 17-man provisional list for the senior men’s national team, D’Tigers, ahead of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket tournament billed for August 12–24 in Angola.

The headline inclusion is Houston Rockets guard Josh Okogie, who makes a return to the national team after a few years away. Okogie, formerly of the Phoenix Suns, last featured for Nigeria at the 2019 FIBA Men’s World Cup in China and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Joining him on the roster is Caleb Agada, fresh off his triumph in the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) with Libyan outfit Al Ahli Tripoli. Other experienced names such as Ike Nwamu, Mike Nuga, and Talib Zanna have also been called up, while standout BAL performers Peter Olisemeka (Rivers Hoopers) and Devine Eke (ASCVD of Senegal) earned places on the team.

The list is completed by Kareem Joseph, Wesley Iwundu, Ugochukwu Simon, Stanley Okoye, Folabomi Fayemi, Emmanuel Omogbo, Christian Mekowulu, Martins Igbanu, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, and Jekiri Tonye. Chimezie Metu, however, misses out due to a long-term injury.

D’Tigers, champions of the 2015 edition, last featured in competitive action during the FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Lagos in August 2023, where they missed out on a ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The team is expected to open camp next week, after which the squad will be trimmed to the final 12 players for the tournament.

Nigeria has been placed in Group B alongside defending champions Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar. The team will open its campaign against Madagascar on August 13, face Tunisia on August 15, and round off the group phase against Cameroon on August 17. The knockout stage begins on August 18, with the final scheduled for August 24 at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda in Angola.
