The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has relieved national team coach Otto Addo of his duties, just over two months before the start of the FIFA World Cup.
The decision was announced on Tuesday, only hours after the Black Stars suffered a 2–1 defeat to Germany in an international friendly played in Stuttgart on Monday.
Germany secured victory late in the game through Deniz Undav, dealing another blow to Ghana’s preparations ahead of the global tournament.
The result extended Ghana’s poor run of form to four consecutive defeats, following a heavy 5–1 loss to Austria in a friendly match last week.
Confirming the development in a statement, the GFA expressed gratitude to Addo for his service to the national team.
“The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the football body said.
The association also indicated that it would soon announce the next steps regarding the technical leadership of the Black Stars.
Addo, 50, had been in charge of the team since March 2024.
His dismissal comes just over 70 days before the World Cup, which will be hosted in North America this summer.
At the tournament, Ghana are drawn in a group alongside England, Croatia and Panama, where they will seek to progress beyond the group stage.
