Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has married his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, in a private ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, after nearly a decade together.
Representatives of the 41-year-old Portugal captain confirmed the wedding, which took place at the upscale seaside resort west of Lisbon following weeks of speculation in the Portuguese media about the venue and date.
Ronaldo appeared to confirm the marriage himself on Instagram, sharing a photograph of his hand and Rodriguez’s hand, both wearing wedding rings, alongside the caption: “C (heart) G”.
The couple’s five children were present at what Ronaldo’s public relations representatives described as a “private and intimate” ceremony.
The wedding came exactly one year after Rodriguez, 32, announced their engagement on Instagram.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez began their relationship in 2016 after meeting while Rodriguez was working at a Gucci store in Madrid. Rodriguez has previously described their first encounter as “love at first sight”.
In a 2025 interview with Vogue Arabia, she said she immediately felt a strong connection with Ronaldo, describing the experience as “a sense of peace and an inexplicable energy”.
The couple had kept details of their wedding plans closely guarded, prompting widespread speculation about the location. Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira where Ronaldo was born, and Sintra, near Lisbon, were among the locations mentioned in reports.
Rumours that the wedding would take place in Funchal even attracted hundreds of people to the city’s cathedral hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple. The cathedral had, however, said no wedding involving Ronaldo had been scheduled there.
Cascais, an exclusive coastal destination about 30 kilometres from Lisbon, was ultimately chosen for the ceremony. The couple own a villa in the area.
Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players. The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward has won the Ballon d’Or five times.
Rodriguez has also built a successful public profile of her own. Her Netflix series, I Am Georgina, follows her life with Ronaldo and their children while showcasing her interests in fashion, travel and business.
Together, Ronaldo and Rodriguez have become one of the most recognisable celebrity couples globally, with more than 750 million followers across social media platforms.
They have also developed business interests outside football and entertainment, including fashion ventures and a portfolio of hotels.
Their wedding marks the latest milestone in a relationship that has evolved from their meeting in Madrid in 2016 into a high-profile family and business partnership.
