Pep Guardiola has turned down an offer to become the next head coach of the Italy national team, choosing to remain away from football management as he focuses on spending time with his family.
The former Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City manager reportedly informed the Italian Football Federation that he was not ready to take on a new coaching challenge, with his decision unrelated to financial terms.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development in a post on X, saying: "Pep Guardiola said no to Italy due to a personal decision, it's not about a financial proposal. Guardiola will be back coaching at the right time and when he feels a new project is the best one possible; now dedicating time to family."
Guardiola, widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of his generation, has enjoyed remarkable success across Europe's top leagues, winning multiple league titles in Spain, Germany and England, in addition to several UEFA Champions League crowns.
Italy had hoped to secure the services of the 55-year-old as the man to lead the Azzurri into a new era, but their pursuit has ended after Guardiola opted against accepting the role.
Italian Football Federation president Giovanni Malago confirmed that discussions had taken place with the Spaniard over the vacancy, although the talks did not result in an agreement.
Despite rejecting Italy's approach, Guardiola is expected to return to management in the future. However, those close to the coach insist he will only accept a project that aligns with his ambitions and arrives at the right moment in his career.
For now, the decorated Spaniard is content to step away from the demands of elite football and devote his time to his family while considering his next move.
