Pep Guardiola has moved to calm growing speculation over his future at Manchester City, insisting he has no immediate plans to leave the club despite reports suggesting preparations are underway for his possible exit.
Reports circulating in England claimed City officials were considering succession options ahead of the end of the season, with former assistant coach Enzo Maresca among the names linked with replacing the Spaniard.
Speaking ahead of City’s Premier League encounter against AFC Bournemouth, Guardiola dismissed the speculation and reiterated that he remains under contract at the Etihad Stadium.
“I have one more year,” Guardiola said when asked about rumours surrounding his future.
The City manager also brushed aside suggestions that the club’s remaining matches could mark the beginning of a farewell run.
“I am here, I have a contract,” he added.
Guardiola was equally quick to dismiss reports that Manchester City were considering naming the club’s expanded North Stand after him if he eventually leaves.
“I have no idea about that,” he said.
“They don’t need to do anything.”
Since joining City in 2016, Guardiola has established himself as one of the most successful managers in English football history, transforming the club into a dominant force domestically and in Europe.
Under his leadership, Manchester City have won six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups and five League Cups.
The former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach could still end the current campaign with another Premier League crown after already guiding City to FA Cup and Carabao Cup victories this season.
