Wema Bank Plc has extended its winning streak at the Nigeria Bankers Game (NBG), emerging overall champion for the fourth consecutive year at the 2025 Grand Finale.
The bank, in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 9, celebrated the feat, noting that its athletes secured nine gold medals across multiple sporting categories. The victories spanned table tennis (female singles, doubles, mixed doubles), volleyball, scrabble, video games, and track events, including the women’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.
One of the major highlights of this year’s edition was the recognition of Wema Bank’s Oluwaseun Adewunmi as the NBG 2025 Overall Outstanding Athlete. The bank said her exceptional performances across several events demonstrated remarkable dedication, discipline, and tenacity.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, expressed pride in the bank’s continued dominance.
“Wema Bank Plc has once again won the Nigerian Bankers Games title for the fourth consecutive year. This remarkable achievement sets a new benchmark in the industry,” Oseni said.
He noted that the victory was particularly significant as the bank marks its 80th anniversary. “We owe this success to every member of staff who competed with passion and focus. Our athletes are true champions who have showcased the best of our institution. This triumph is more than a trophy; it reflects our corporate DNA rooted in excellence and determination.”
Adewunmi, in her remarks, said she was honoured to receive the top athlete award.
“Representing Wema Bank across several events has been incredibly fulfilling. This recognition is a shared victory with my teammates and supporters. I am grateful to the bank for providing the platform and encouragement that enabled us to excel,” she said.
The bank said its fourth successive victory underscores its commitment to nurturing talent and promoting teamwork.
