Chioma Chukwuka mourns father, 13 years after losing mother

Nollywood actress Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has announced the death of her father, Leonard Ndukaife Chukwuka, saying his passing has left her confronting the pain of losing both parents.

The actress disclosed the death in an emotional post on Instagram on Friday, describing her late father as her “daddy, papa’m, obara’m” and her source of comfort.

“My beloved father, Leonard Ndukaife Chukwuka, has gone to be with the Lord,” she wrote.

Chukwuka-Akpotha said the loss was particularly painful because she had lost her mother 13 years ago and was now left without either parent.

“I lost my mother 13 years ago and now that my father is gone, the thought that I have neither parent here anymore breaks my heart in a way I cannot fully explain. So na only me bayi?” she said.

While mourning, the actress expressed gratitude for her father’s long life and for the opportunity he had to see his children and grandchildren.

“I am so thankful you lived a long life, and I am grateful to God you saw your children and grandchildren. We had hoped you would meet your great-grandchildren too, mana nya diba!” she wrote.

She said the pain of losing a parent remained difficult regardless of how many years they were privileged to share together.

“No matter how many years we are given with a parent, we still want one more conversation, one more embrace, one more day,” she added.

The actress also revealed that she had kept the news private while trying to come to terms with her grief and process the loss.

“I have held this news close while trying to understand my own grief,” she said.

Chukwuka-Akpotha asked the public to pray for her, her siblings and the entire family as they mourned their patriarch.

She said funeral arrangements would be communicated when the family was ready, while bidding farewell to her father.

“Rest well, Olowo of Ikate, my father. I will always love you,” she wrote.

She accompanied the tribute with passages from Proverbs 17:6 and Psalm 34:18.
