Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, has opened up about his current health challenges, revealing that he now finds it difficult to walk and occasionally experiences swelling in parts of his body.
The actor spoke during a visit to his Ghanaian colleague, Emmanuel Armah, who has been battling illness for almost 11 years.
Edochie visited Armah in Accra, Ghana, on Thursday, where he prayed for his recovery and offered financial assistance towards his treatment.
In a video of the emotional encounter circulating online, Edochie disclosed that he was also dealing with health challenges but remained hopeful of recovering.
“Sitting down here, I’m not very well myself. Walking is a problem for me now, but I still have hope that I will recover myself,” he said.
The veteran actor further revealed that he sometimes wakes up with swelling in different parts of his body, which later subsides.
“Sometimes I get up, and parts of my body are swollen. After some time, it goes down again. Like my hand is swollen now,” he added.
Edochie also spoke emotionally about his concern that prolonged illness could make him dependent on those around him.
He said he had been praying for God to determine the time of his death rather than allow him to become a burden to his loved ones.
“I just keep asking God, ‘You are the author of life. Whenever you feel it’s time for me to go, just take me, don’t let me bother the people who are around me. Just take me,’” he said.
Despite his difficulties, Edochie encouraged Armah to remain hopeful, telling him that he believed he would recover.
“It is my belief that you will recover one day,” he told his Ghanaian colleague.
Armah’s wife, Stella Amina Armah, reportedly told GhanaWeb that her husband’s health problems started while he was working in the United States.
According to her, Armah had high blood pressure without knowing it and subsequently developed elevated cholesterol levels.
She said the actor was currently undergoing physiotherapy and receiving daily massages as part of his treatment.
The visit appeared to have a strong emotional impact on Edochie, who expressed concern over the condition of his colleague while offering support towards his care.
The actor has continued to express hope for Armah’s recovery and urged him to remain positive despite his prolonged health battle.
