The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that it is negotiating a political arrangement with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), insisting that no such discussions are underway.
In a statement released on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the report as inaccurate and urged the public to disregard it.
He said the party’s attention had been drawn to what he called a “misleading story” alleging that the ADC was exploring talks with the PRP ahead of a pending court judgment over its leadership dispute.
“We wish to state clearly that there are no talks with the PRP or any other political party at this time,” the statement said.
The ADC maintained that its coalition framework remains intact and that its leadership is not contemplating any immediate alliances or mergers.
According to the party, its priority is to challenge what it termed unlawful interference in its internal affairs by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other political actors.
“Our focus is on ensuring that the actions taken against our leadership are overturned through legal means. This is crucial for the protection of democratic norms and the rule of law,” it stated.
While reiterating its willingness to work with other opposition forces in the future, the party said such engagements would not come at the expense of its current legal struggle.
The ADC also rejected suggestions that it might abandon its structure or defect into another platform, describing such claims as speculative.
“Any insinuation that we are considering leaving the ADC is baseless and should be ignored,” Abdullahi added.
On the anticipated court ruling, the party expressed optimism that the judiciary would act independently and uphold democratic principles.
The ADC has in recent months positioned itself as a rallying platform for opposition groups ahead of the 2027 general elections, even as it contends with internal leadership challenges and legal disputes over its control.
