The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved a major reshuffle of senior officers across the Nigerian Army in a move aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and enhancing the military's response to the country's security challenges.
The redeployment, announced on Saturday, affects General Officers Commanding, brigade commanders, commandants of military training institutions and principal staff officers at the Army Headquarters.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said the postings form part of ongoing efforts to reposition its leadership structure and improve operational efficiency across key commands and formations.
Among the changes, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.
Major General EI Okoro takes over as GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, succeeding Major General EE Emeka.
The Army also named Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola was appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff.
To reinforce field operations, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been posted as Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K Rabiu assumes command of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
In another key appointment, Major General SA Emmanuel has been named Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, reflecting the service's growing emphasis on technology-driven operations and emerging domains of warfare.
Similarly, Major General O Adegbe has been appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at the Defence Headquarters.
The reshuffle also affected the Army's training and educational institutions.
Major General KE Chigbu has been appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School. Major General SO Adejimi will head the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, and Major General FS Etim has been appointed Chief of Training at the Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC).
Brigadier General U Ahmad has also been posted as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
Outside operational formations, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited (PHDL), while Major General AI Allison will serve as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, discipline, innovation and exemplary leadership in the discharge of their duties.
He charged them to remain focused on the Army's constitutional responsibility of defending Nigeria's sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.
The Nigerian Army said the latest redeployment underscores its commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at building a more professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of effectively responding to contemporary and future security threats across the country.
