2027: North-East APC youths warn Tinubu against replacing Shettima

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Parliament in the North-East has issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against any move to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general election.

Addressing a press conference in Bauchi on Friday, the group’s chairman, Kabiru Kobi, dismissed what he described as growing rumours of Shettima’s possible substitution, insisting that such a decision would not only destabilise the party but could also endanger Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Kobi said the speculation had already stirred unease within the APC, creating room for internal divisions that could undermine the party’s unity and electoral chances in 2027.

“We want to state unequivocally that any attempt to reconfigure the Tinubu-Shettima joint ticket in 2027 will breed resentment within the party,” Kobi warned. “Such discontent could fester beyond the elections and ultimately affect the party’s success.”

He said the North-East APC Youth Parliament remains fully behind the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, describing both leaders as “tested and trusted.”

Kobi urged party stakeholders to avoid the mistakes of the past, pointing to the 2015 implosion of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a warning. According to him, the PDP is still grappling with the consequences of that internal crisis.

“History has little patience for those who ignore its lessons,” he added.

The youth leader further claimed that recent attacks on Vice President Shettima were part of a larger plot aimed at weakening President Tinubu’s support base.

“These calculated attacks are not truly aimed at the Vice President but at you, Mr. President,” Kobi said. “What these elements seek is to replace Shettima with someone of weaker political standing.”

He warned that such a move would spark outrage among the Vice President’s supporters, who may feel betrayed.

“They know Vice President Shettima would likely call on his supporters to remain calm and accept the situation, but you would be left to bear the consequences. And as we all know, God despises injustice.”

Kobi concluded by urging Tinubu to remain firm in his alliance with Shettima, stressing that loyalty and consistency are crucial for the APC’s survival and success in 2027.
